Grade 5
We opened with in introduction to the art elements; texture, shape, value, line, color, and form. Students learned a song that they should be able to sing to you that goes with Row Row Row Your Boat. With this under their belt they created a postcard that expressed something about themselves and their families. These postcards were then traded with a student from another art class who then wrote back to them. In their correspondence they critiqued that artists' use of the art elements. The artist then got their original postcard back and got to read what was written to them. They received a card to critique in a written responses as well. Those cards were sent home for all to enjoy.
Students first heard the story of American art history with several easy to identify periods. They then choose a painting to copy of any American artists. First we observed these works of art by free hand sketching them. Then they traced them and learned to grid them from 5X7" to 18x24"
These will be exhibited in the cafeteria January to May of of 2015
